Optimize virtual memory
If there are two different sizes of disks in your computer and one is faster than another in reading and writing speed, you can use the faster one as virtual memory manually. But you should be very cautious to do that. If you are still a green hand in computer, I suggest you to let Windows system give you a big hand. In the “Control Panel”, click “Performance and Maintenance”—“Virtual Memory”, you can set the maximized and minimum values according to the real condition of your computer.

You can forbid using active desktop. Although it can display Web groupware, such function has great influence on CPU processing speed obviously and is the main cause of decreasing computer performance. You can right-click desktop to choose “Properties”—“Web”. In this tab, you can choose to cross out the functions of viewing active desktop by Web and IE channel. Or you can alter the registry to prohibit such function completely. Its information is hidden in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer, and you can alter it to close down active desktop perfectly.

Forbid some peripheral equipment temporarily. When starting up Windows, system has to load and check certain peripheral equipment. You can right-click “My Computer” and click “Properties” to open “System Properties”. In this tab, you feel free to delete the equipment and restart the computer. It is OK.

Besides, after using computer for a lot of time, because of the restoring and deleting of files, the files and available space can become scattered in the hard disk. If you do not deal with them, the disk may reduce its restoring efficiency. And disk defragmenting program can put the files into continuous space and make the disk available space tidy and clean without taken by fragments disorderly. So, defragmentation is quite necessary for you. You can startup it in the Windows.

Last but not least, it is known to all that the registry is the database of computer which is like the heart of human. That is to say, you change the default computer condition by altering the registry. No matter how many changes you have done to registry, you have to be clear about that, the more changes you do, the more fragments in the registry. That is to say, you do not only have to defragment disk, but also the registry.
