Defragmentation is a very effective method to optimize computer performance. 1) Run disk cleanup to remove some files that are no longer used. 2) Run error-checking to check and correct a wide range of hard disk error. open My Computer -> right click the disk to be checked and then select Properties -> Tools on the top -> press Check Now within Error –checking -> tick the two tabs “Automatically fix file system errors” and “scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors” -> Press Start to begin the checking.

 After the above preparation, the defragmentation will be a little faster. But most of the time, to avoid defragment problems, it is much better to first close all other running programs or get into windows safe mode before the defragmentation.
