Defragmenting disk is advised to maintain disk drive and pc performance. But overmanypeople defragment the hard disk being unaware that they do it wrong and bring about damages to the disk. There are some instructions that you be supposed to learn before you do it wrongly.

1. Defragmenting disk is advised but do not overdo.

Overmanypeople want defragmenting can reduce the qunantity of } fragment. As a result they do it repeatedly. In fact, it’s not necessary to defrag every other day. For the volumes that store the files that do not frequently face writes and reads, you could defragment them two month a time. For the partitions which contain overmanytemporary, IE and download files, you can defrag them once per month.

Don’t overdo it! When you conduct defragmenting, the Disk Defragmenter would analyse every file in the disk drive and judge the file type. And then it arrange the space for all the data. The process uses overmanyCPU resources and disk drive space. And it can result in wears and tears to the disk drive. If you overdo it, you could bring damages to the hard disk.

2. Remove all temporary files before you conduct defragmentation

Temporary files are normally located at folder C:\WINDOWS\Temp . They are the major factors which result in fragmentation. When you start defragmentation without cleaning up them. They will be analyzed and defraged by the Disk Defragment tool.

But when they are removed by Microsoft windows, they leave discontiguous space in the disk drive. When other file are stored in those discontinuous space, there come the fragments. So you should remove all the temporary files before you defragment your disk.

In a word, those two factors are where most people make mistake when they defrag their disk. And to tell the truth, Disc Defragment tool isn’t a very professional and useful defragment tool. It cannot defrag the space that are encrypted or being used. That means it will leave some fragments in the hard disk. So I recommend you resort to other defragmenter instead.
